"Cras numquam scire" is the song played during the opening of The Mystic Archives of Dantalian anime. The music is performed by Yucca, featuring Daisuke Ono, who reads a Phantom Book as shown in Episode 12.[1]

Yucca is a Japanese diva who sings a wide range of genres, including classical, J-pop and rock opera. She graduated from Tokyo College of Music. Her first album was released in March 2007. She worked in other animes such as Black Butler and Space Battleship Yamato.[2]

Yucca sings the song in Pseudo-Latin. Daisuke Ono, voice actor of Hugh, recites in Japanese in the second part of the song, which is present only in the full version. Music and arrangement are works by Yo Tsuji, while the lyrics were created by Nolix Benedictus.[3]

The song is also used in episodes and other media promoting the anime. The full and instrumental versions were released in a CD single.[4] The anime has other soundtracks with similar arrangements. Director Yutaka Uemura chose Cras numquam scire as the main theme from two options proposed by Yo Tsuji. The original idea was starting with violin instead of piano, but GAINAX suggested the opposite.[5]

Description[]

The opening shows the logo of the anime, a night in London, a photograph of Hugh's childhood and his time as a World War I fighter pilot. His golden key appears next to his gloves, then some Phantom Books, including one telling Hugh and Dalian's story.

Hugh is having a break from driving. He's next to his car, holding Dalian's white parasol. The Biblioprincess is happily eating a dessert in the passenger seat.

Kamilla runs in front of a mirror, trying different clothes. Armand is blushing while walking with a bouquet in his hands, gathering confidence to go on a date.

Hugh is shown carrying Dalian and shooting the Golem. Flamberge and Hal appear, then Rasiel and the Professor soon after. The door to the Dantalian's Bookshelf on Dalian's chest is opened. The girl in white sends a Phantom Book to the outside world. She holds hands with Hugh, who changes between his adult and child form.

Finally, Hugh arrives at the Disward estate and meets Dalian for the first time after the Great War. The book about Hugh and Dalian's adventures is closed. More Phantom Books are shown in the background.[6]
